Universities

Morocco has 15 universities, of which half are in the Casablanca/Rabat region. This corresponds to a university density of 1:2,100,000 inhabitants, placing Morocco as no. 19 of 22 in the MENA region.
. There is also a large number of higher educational institutions, counting a total of 143 as of 2009. Two universities appear in some listings, but we have no confirmation of their present existence, is the Casablanca University and the Sultan Moulay Sliman University in Beni Mellal.
Considering that Morocco is a country of alarmingly low literacy and low university density, the country does remarkably well on international rankings for universities. 5 institutions make it to the World Top 6000 list with Webometrics: Al Akhawayn University at no. 3653; Cadi Ayyad University at 3956; École Mohammadia d'Ingénieurs (not listed here) at 4618; Faculty of Sciences Rabat (not listed here) at 4759; Abdelmalek Essaadi University at 4866; and Mohamed I University at 5950. In this respect, Morocco is with 40% of its universities on this list, ranked 7 of 22 in MENA, and best in North Africa.
