|
Geographical region normally used for Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, and Egypt, the 5 countries lying north of the Sahara, and which has a population with relatively light complexion, contrary to the black peoples dominating south of Sahara.
Inaccurately, the term is sometimes used for the region that makes up the about 20% most northern parts of Africa, which means that Mauritania, Mali, Niger, Chad, and Sudan is included, i.e. most of Sahara and the areas north of it.
