SAQQARA
Southern section

Still not officially opened (it is not fenced in though) and completely unlabelled.

South Saqqara is off limits for tourists, at least that is what the officials at the ticket office at North Saqqara will tell you. But don't mind, get a taxi driver to drive you into the village to the south, and start asking for "Pepi" and "Mastaba Faraoun". You will get directions. Or you can do as I did, walk all the way from North to South by foot, it takes about 50 minutes to an hour to cross to Pyramid Pepi 2.
The walk is interesting, you will see mounds around you that suggest that they were pyramids or large mastabas.
South Saqqara was not an inferior burial ground compared to North Saqqara, and I would say that there is more than enough to see here to have Egyptian authorities put it on the tourist map as soon as possible.
