MARRAKECH
Artists

The top photo show the members of the band "Salam", performing for money on the Jemaa one day in January 1997. Music was lively and I wondered why nobody started dancing.
Jemaa el-Fna owes most of its fame to the large number of spectacles going on all around all the time. Snake charmers, singers, story tellers, healers and fakirs attract a dominantly Moroccan audience.
Although appearing as a dentist, the man with the teeth is part of the artists scene. Most Moroccans react with the same disbelief as foreigners to a having a tooth pulled out by nippers right in the middle of the busyist town square in the country. So how does he make money? The photo cost me 10 dh; the proud dentist knew his haggling as well as his modelling.
