Universities

United Arab Emirates presently has 11 universities, of which only the United Arab Emirates University and Zayed University are public. UAE figures correspond to a university density of 1:430,000 inhabitants, placing UAE as no. 6 of 22 in the MENA region.
Webometrics does not rank UAE universities very high. The highest on their list is United Arab Emirates University as no. 1646 in the world. 4 more institutions make it to the Top 6000 list: Higher Colleges of Technology is ranked no. 2801; University of Sharjah no. 3342; American University of Sharjah no. 4378; and Zayed University no. 5140. In this respect, UAE is with 46% of its universities on this list, ranked 6 of 22 in MENA.

Several universities have satellite campuses in the UAE, among these, in Dubai: Heriot-Watt University (United Kingdom); University of Wollongong (Australia); Michigan State University (USA); Rochester Institute of Technology (USA). In Abu Dhabi: Sorbonne (France); In Ras al-Khaimah: Tufts University (USA). One satellite campus is closed, that of George Mason University (USA).
