Dynasty of Ancient Egypt 727-715 BCE, 12 years, consisting of 2 kings, belonging to the Third Intermediate Period.
This short-lived dynasty ruled from Sais in the western part of the Nile Delta.
There is little substantial information about this period, but its rulers were of Libyan origin. The most common story tells that the first king, Tefnakhte, formed an alliance to conquer Upper Egypt. He was successful in the beginning, conquering Memphis, but at Herakleopolis he was defeated by the king of the south, Piy, who had founded the Cushite 25th Dynasty.
When Piy returned south, Tefnakhte reasserted his power.
It was first under his son, King Bakenrenef (also called Bocchoris), that full power was exercised from the royal palace in Sais. The dynasty was brought to an end when King Shabaqo of Upper Egypt defeated Bakenrenef in 715. Bakenrenef is told to have been burned alive.
Sais would reemerge as capital about 50 years later, with the kings of the 26th Dynasty.
