City in southwestern Iran with about 240,000 inhabitants (2005 estimate) on the foot of the Zagros Mountains. Dezful lies in the Khuzestan province.
Dezful is the commercial centre of northern Khuzistan and the winter market for the nomadic population of Lorestan. In addition, Dezful has a large cotton textile mill and many smaller industry companies.
About 30 km upstream on the Dez River lies the great Dez Dam, which provides the region with both electrical power and irrigation.
Dezful is connected by road to Shushtar, province capital Ahvaz and Khorramabad. The Trans-Iranian Railroad runs on the other side of the Dez River, 15 km from Dezful.
Dezful has several historical monuments and landmarks. The main attraction is the 4th century CE Dez Bridge spanning 410 metres across the Dez River. There are also a number of mosques and tombs from between the 16th and 19th centuries.

History
The region of Dezful has been settled for more than 5,000 years.
1963: The Dez Dam, 203 metres high, is completed.
1980's: Dezful is bombed several times during the Iran-Iraq War.
