Marand
Persian: marand

City in northwestern Iran with 120,000 inhabitants (2009 estimate), one of the most important cities of East Azerbaijan province.
The region is semi-mountainous, with green valleys and fertile plains.
Marand is home of a very ancient grand mosque, as well as the 9th century St. Stenpanos church. The 13th century poet and philosopher Shahbaz Qalander was born in Marand.
