This dynasty emerges from the 9th Dynasty. The transition into, or replacement by, the 10th Dynasty cannot be determined from historical sources
This dynasty was established by local rulers of Henen-nesw (Herakloepolis) who took over power from the rulers of Memphis. From Henen-nesw they controlled large parts of northern Egypt, but were unable to recreate any of the former glory of hte Old Kingdom.
The end of this dynasty comes with the miltary defeat to the Theban rulers of the 11th Dynasty.
