BASICS
Climate

The climate of Sudan is dominated by its proximity the Red Sea, being part of the Sahara and with its south belonging to the green and luscious sub-Sahara. In short, most of the year, Sudan is a hot country. Winter seems to be the very best season for travelling no matter which part of the country.
The really hot climate begins around April and ends around October. During that period, temperatures easily pass 40°C in the middle of the day.
Should you travel in summer, the desert is actually better than the coastal regions. Along the coast, temperatures can reach 50°C and high humidity can make this a health hazard.
Summer is also the season for sandstorms. These are fantastic experiences from a safe hotel window, but dangerous if you're out travelling.
In winter, note that nights in desert regions can be very cold.
The south offers a special challenge with heavy summer rains that turn unsurfaced roads into mudpits.
