DemographicsDetailed article
With comparison tables for all countries in the Middle East and North Africa.

Through the 20th century, the population of Libya doubled 12 times, which is a very, very high figure compared to other countries in the region. Population growth remains high in the 2000's, although at 2.2% annual growth, Libya is down almost a percentage point in the last 20 years.
The fertility rate has dropped to 3.1 children per mother in 2009, compared to 5.2 in 1990. Most of the fall happened in the 1990's, and median age is now 24 years and rising. With its fairly young population, increased life expectancy, Libya remains a country with a high rate for births compared to deaths: 7 births per death case.
All indicators suggest that Libya will see strong growth in its population over the coming decades, some projections make the 2030 population higher than 14 million, while other projections suggest 11 million by 2050.
Libya's contingency of foreign workers is lower than many may think, only about 166,000 which is 2.5% of the total population.
More information of demography is found in other Libya articles about ethnic composition, first languages spoken and religious adherence. There is also information relevant to demographics under education and health.
