The health system of Israel is a mixture of private and governmental activity. The Ministry of Health is in charge of all aspects of it, but there are large funds that provide for costs with medical aid, along with the funds provided by the Israeli governments.
Education is free and compulsory for all citizens of Israel. Primary school starts at the age of 5, and continues to the age of 15. Higher education is acheived through a number of higher institutions and universities. There are 6 universities in Israel: Technion- Israel Institute of Technology, Haifa (1912), Hebrew University of Jerusalem (1918), Weizmann Institute of Science, Rehovot (1949), Bar-llan University, Ramat Gan- right east of Tel Aviv (1953), Tel Aviv University (1953), Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Beer Sheva (1965). In addition there are the University of Haifa and the Open University represented all over the country.
Depending of the income of the parents students will have up to 100% of their costs covered.
Israel has a number of religious Jewish schools, that run parallel to the government schools, as well as a number of Christian missionary schools.
