People of Mauritania and Western Sahara, counting 15,000 to 20,000. They were estimated at around 5,000 in the 1970's. Their home region is the Banc d'Arguin National Park on the Mauritania's Atlantic coast.
Imraguen is a Berber word for "fishermen". They are Sunni Muslims. Ethnically they appear to have origins with the Mande people, and are ethnically close to the Soninke. Although there is a distinct language for them, also called Imraguen, the majority among them today speak Hassaniya Arabic.
