Town in northwestern Syria with 95,000 inhabitants (2004 estimate).
The main economic activity for Idlib is agriculture, spinning, textile production and olive oil pressing. The area around Idlib is very fertile, producing cotton, cereals, olives, figs, grapes, tomatoes, sesame seeds and almonds.
Idlib is well-connected to other urban centres by road. Aleppo is 60 km northeast, Hama 100 km south and Latakia 70 km southwest.
Idlib is a typical modern Syrian town, attracting few tourists, but is known for a good museum.
