Asia Minor

Other name for Anatolia, meaning "small Asia". The term is often used as a neutral term, whereas Anatolia often is intended to reflect the Turkish era beginning 2nd millennium CE. Still, the use of Anatolia throughout history is not incorrect, Anatolia is also from Greek Anatole, meaning "east" or "sunrise".
There never was any early collective term for the region, lands and peoples were referred to by their own names. The first known example of the term in use is from around 400 CE, in writings by Paulus Orosius, a Christian historian.
Asia Minor corresponds to modern Turkey.
